Kathy Nicklebur
Background: I started running in 2002 after my first kiddo was born. I was neither gifted nor talented. However, running became something I needed to stay physically and mentally strong as a wife and mother and human being. In 2013 I joined the Rogue Run Like a Mother group and by 2015 I ran my first marathon (Austin). When I finished, I swore I would never run another. The next year I ran Chicago for the first (of three) times, and swore I would never run another marathon. Now years later, I continue to run marathons (I'm up to ten as of this writing) and then swear each will be my last. Both of my kids are in college, so I have a lot of time to train for races I swore I would never run.
Best run/race: It is a tie between London Marathon 2019 when I had my first ever marathon where I totally stuck to my race plan and decided that I would "run with joy" the entire race. I finished SO STRONG and felt so good when the race was over. That's when I realized my coaches weren't punking me with those race plans. Alternatively, Chicago Marathon 2022 when I got a BQ. No one was more shocked than me.
Interesting/fun fact: I'm not on Strava. I know. Shocking.
Best advice for new Rogues: ALWAYS carry water on long runs. Even when there is water provided. Always. Trust me. Just do it. Also, run with JOY, y'all. No one is paying you to do this. It's a hobby. You might as well enjoy it.
